How account and payment information is handled
Understand account data, key hashes, request accounting, payment records, session cookies and invoice references used by Reddit App API.
Information used to operate the account
The service stores your email address, a password hash, and an API key hash and prefix. It uses account and credential information to authenticate access. It also stores credit balances and request accounting information, including successful, pending and refunded request states. IP-related information and abuse-control records support rate limits and trial eligibility checks.
Payment records include invoice information and transaction records used to verify transfers and account for added credits. These categories support account access, credit accounting, payment verification and abuse prevention. Password hashes and key hashes are distinct from storing plaintext passwords or retaining a recoverable copy of the full API key.
Browser session and invoice recovery
Authentication on the account page uses a Secure HttpOnly session cookie. This is separate from the API key header your backend uses for retrieval. The payment widget can store an invoice identifier and a user identifier in localStorage for this hostname so it can recover the latest invoice state for the matching signed-in user.
The stored browser reference is not the invoice contents, password, raw API key or transaction hash. A different signed-in user causes the old invoice reference to be cleared without requesting that invoice. Signing out clears it; temporary status failures can leave it available for another attempt. Browser storage restrictions can prevent persistence, so this convenience should not be treated as a permanent record.
Analytics and payment checks
Pages include Statinside site 65 analytics. This notice does not specify that analytics is cookie-free or provide an unverified list of fields collected by that integration. The account cookie and invoice-reference storage described above should not be confused with analytics behavior.
The service verifies a submitted transaction hash against payment evidence for the displayed invoice. A record of a transfer or invoice is not a guarantee of immediate settlement, successful recovery of a mistaken transfer, or a manual investigation service. Enter only the transaction details needed for that invoice; do not enter a wallet recovery phrase or private key.
Account data and archived discussions are different
No fixed retention period for account, personal and payment data is specified here. There is no implemented account-deletion control or published deletion-request workflow on this account page. Key regeneration replaces a credential; it is not account deletion and does not erase the associated accounting or payment records.
These statements concern service account information. They do not establish how long any archived Reddit record will remain available, guarantee permanent access to discussion content or promise that an archive record can be removed through this account interface.
Your app makes its own storage decisions
The hiking-app examples describe possible features built by a separate developer. A local reading list, an app user account or app-specific analytics would be that developer’s implementation, not storage created by this archive API. The developer needs to explain those choices to their users and avoid embedding the service credential in the client.
